Disturbance of the normal menstrual cycle is one of the most common complaints when visiting a gynecologist. It turns out that a large number of women do not realize what menstruation is and that they should be treated with care.

The normal cycle varies within the following limits: interval between periods, counted from the first day of the next cycle - from 21 to 35 days, duration of bleeding - from 2 to 5 days, intensity - 20-60 ml (3-4 bandages per day).

Irregular menstrual cycle exists when: the duration between cycles or the cycle itself is increased or decreased, beyond the limits quoted above.

For any deviation from the norm, the woman should visit her doctor immediately.

Frequently, irregular menstruation turns out to be the first sign of an emerging disease of the genitals - inflammation, polyps of the uterus, endometriosis, ectopic pregnancy. Cancer of the cervix, uterus, ovaries are also possible!

Sometimes, rarely, disturbances in the menstrual cycle are not symptoms of diseases, but are due to the influence of the environment. At the age of puberty, around 12-16 years of age, after the first period, one-third of girls have irregular periods. This period lasts for about two years, after which the menstrual cycle settles.

Symptoms such as sudden weight loss or weight gain, hair loss, accompanied by an irregular cycle should be treated seriously, as they are a sign of future infertility or premature pregnancy. At the climacteric (45-55 years), the cycle becomes less frequent. The formation of hormones and the maturation of eggs for about 5 years stops.
