The movie On Chesel Beach (2017), one of the most artful adaptations of a novel ever created, opens the fourth edition of the International Cinema-Literary Festival CineLibri.
The spectacular event will take place on October 10 at 19:00 in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture in the presence of Ian McEwan, author of the novel and co-screenwriter of the film. The great British artist and public figure, who arrives in Bulgaria especially for the opening of the festival, will be awarded the title Doctor honoris causa of the University of Sofia and the "Cinelibri" award for overall contribution to the art of literary adaptation in the language of cinema. The opening show of the festival promises to be spectacular, accompanied by specially created choreography and video mapping.
After the solemn ceremony, which is expected to be attended by many official guests, as well as prominent Bulgarian and European filmmakers, the latest screen adaptation based on McEwan's novel - "On Chezel Beach" will be broadcast.
The film stars Irish actress Sirsha Ronan (“Atonement”) and Billy Howell (“Dunkirk”), who transform into the images of two lovers with different social backgrounds. Florence (Sirsha Ronan) is an upper-class violinist who becomes attached to poor college student Eddie (Billy Howell) - and the two end up getting married. The story follows their honeymoon at Chezel Beach. The delightful psychological subtlety with which Ian McEwan's novel depicts the couple's inner trepidation and confusion about sex and intimacy is brought to the screen brilliantly. The director of the tape is Dominic Cooke, who is known for his successful theater projects, and the rest of the roles are entrusted to Emily Watson, Anne-Marie Duff and Samuel West.
The sale of early bird tickets for the official opening of CineLibri started on August 20 and will last for nearly a month.
