If you are not feeling well, there are several ways to improve your condition - go for a short walk and fresh air, drink a glass of water, close your eyes and breathe deeply. If these well-known methods don't work, try acupressure techniques.
What is acupressure?
Acupressure is a Chinese medicine practice that helps with discomfort. Do not confuse it with acupuncture - it uses needles. With acupressure, you don't need help, you can do it yourself. It works by putting pressure on certain parts of the body related to some of the most important organs.
You can apply these techniques anywhere - at home, in the office, at the gym, outside or on public transport.
According to Kerry Tannenbaum, an acupressure and acupuncturist specialist, acupressure induces energy flow through natural pathways in the body, sending that energy to internal organs and extremities.
For upper body pain
If you experience pain or heaviness in your head, neck, throat, or face (including headache, tension, toothache, sinus pain, or sore throat), begin a gentle massage on the area between your thumb and forefinger, simultaneously palm side and upper arm side.
For stomach discomfort
For lifting and urges to vomit, dizziness, nervousness, apply pressure on the inside of the wrist, about 3 fingers down below the wrist, in the part that merges into the hand. This technique can also be very helpful for pregnant women who have morning sickness.
When you feel exhausted
For fatigue, exhaustion,. lowered immunity, lack of vitality, apply pressure and massage on the point located 4 fingers below the bend of your knee, on the back of the leg.
According to Kerry Tannenbaum, when we put pressure on this point, you should feel a softness, a slight soreness, and that's how you'll know you're in the right place. This point is very important and is even called "leg three miles" because it is believed that if you are walking and get tired, massaging this point will give you the energy to walk another 5 kilometers.
For stomach upset and indigestion
For similar stomach ailments or lack of appetite, gently massage the space between the sternum and navel. According to Kerry, gently massaging the area or even just placing your hand lying there helps ease the discomfort.
For menstrual pain and leg cramp pain
For similar disturbances during menstruation, apply pressure or gently massage the soft areas on the front of the leg, 4 toes below the knee, on the side of the bone.
