Today the Holy Church celebrates one of the greatest Christian holidays - Pentecost It is celebrated after the Cherry Stew, it has a floating date, and it is called so because this event happened on the day of the Old Testament feast of Pentecost, which marked fifty days after the Jewish Passover. The Russian Orthodox Church calls it Holy Trinity Day.
Since ancient times, the holiday has been considered the birthday of the Church of Christ. On the 50th day from the Lord's Resurrection (Easter), the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles in the form of tongues of fire and endowed them with the grace gifts. The fruits of the Spirit, in the words of the Apostle Paul, are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, mercy, faithfulness, meekness, self-control
For the apostles, the day was doubly holy because it is the day of Resurrection - Sunday. They were gathered in the Upper Room of Zion, and among them was the Holy Mother of God and other believers.
This gave them vigor and strength, and they went to all corners of the world to preach the Gospel, giving their lives for Christ's faith. Then the holy apostle Peter delivered his first fiery sermon. After this day, the apostles decreed that Christians commemorate the descent of the Holy Spirit every year on this day.
The following day (Monday) is celebrated Spirit Day – Holy Spirit Day, which is considered a celebration of the souls and spirits of the deceased. According to folk beliefs, they come to feed themselves, which is why food and wine are left on the graves.
