About the book
Ishan and Nooran are toddlers when their father dies suddenly. Their mother begins to earn a living for the family as a laundress in the homes of the rich, but the hard work takes a toll on her he alth. To relieve her, Ishaan starts working early and increasingly takes care of the family. Unlike his responsible and hardworking brother, Nuran lounges around all day and dreams of a film career in Istanbul.
Ishaan's qualities do not go unnoticed and he receives an offer for a well-paid job in another city. The young man leaves, filled with anxiety for his spoiled sister and his frail mother. His worries are soon justified. He learns that Nuran has run off to Istanbul with the local womanizer and swindler, and their mother has fallen seriously ill. Ishaan rushes home but does not find his mother alive. When he learns of her dying request, he immediately sets out to fulfill it. Ishaan must find his sister and bring her back from the bad path she's on.

Its bearer is the Nobel Laureate Orhan Pamuk. Kemal is considered a classic of the Turkish modern novel. His books have been translated into dozens of languages. He is the author of 28 novels and one play, as well as 12 short stories. There are 21 film adaptations of his works. Kemal's home has been turned into a museum.
